Geotechnical Investigation of Gelatin Biopolymer on Cohesive Soils
نویسندگان
چکیده
Gelatin, a biopolymer derived from animal proteins, has been selected to stabilize three fine-grained soils by determining select index and engineering properties. Specimens for California Bearing Ratio (CBR) were tested using different curing methods, i.e., thermally cured at 60 °C, unsoaked, 7 days air-cured submerged specimens. The amount of gelatin added the soil ranged 0.5% 2% weight. sequence interaction between clays is as follows: (A) solution adsorbed agglomerated onto surface clay. (B) presence Al3+, Si4+, K+ ions on clay promotes blending connective linkages with negatively charged gelatin. (C) connection reinforcements harden period subsequent drying stabilized soils. (D) Drying gelatin–clay complex also establishes alternative bonding modes such van der Waals interactions ligand exchange. formed dry, rigid films after 72 h which responsible coating reinforcing particles. Thermal 1% addition yielded maximum CBR 91.42%, 141.1%, 122.3% high compressible clay, low silt, respectively, Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS) 3968 kN/m2 UCS results revealed that brittle failure was predominant gelatin-amended 28 while shear observed treated 2 sample preparation. Tests pH gelatin-stabilized displayed marginal variations days. Spectroscopic analysis various types bonds clays. A reduction in mass 9% alternate wetting 12 cycles. adsorption clay–gelatin indicated variation average particle diameter specific surface. Savings 450 m3 93.75 coarse aggregates dense bituminous macadam, 1 km pavement

Effects of Soil Pollution on Geotechnical Behaviour of Soils
Ground pollution arises from the impact of past and current industrial activity and due to improper disposal of waste generated by society. Geoenvironmental engineering deals with the most important aspects: (a) Soil pollution processes and effect on geotechnical properties, and (b) Waste Management. Soil-pollutants interaction changes soil behaviour and also can lead to various geotechnical pr...
متن کاملGeotechnical Aspects of Light Structures on Expansive Soils
The geotechnical behaviour of expansive clay soils is investigated by looking into the geomorphologic, geological and climatic conditions and mineralogical composition of the soils in the study area. The geotechnical results are linked with the performance of the foundation as well as structures. Since swell potential and swell pressure are key properties of expansive soils, the swell parameter...

Title Pile Aging in Cohesive Soils
This technical note presents the results of a field investigation into pile aging in soft clay which was conducted over a period of ten years. Static load tests were conducted after the excess pore pressure generated by the installation of 6 m long driven concrete piles were fully equalised. These tests allowed the time-capacity aging profile to be established. A normalised capacity-time trend ...
